Tonbridge History

Tonbridge then and now: The upper High Street

Tonbridge's Town Hall was built in the road at the High Street's junction with Castle Street in 1798, but was in poor shape when the 'then' photo was taken a century later, and would soon be pulled down. Shops between the timber-framed Chequers and the river, some of which can be seen on the left of the 'then' photo, were pulled down in the 1960s.
