Tonbridge then and now: The High Street 1

The view is looking north towards the Big Bridge. In the 'then' view, dating from the early 20th century,  the Bull Hotel dominates the right (east) side of the High Street, where Peacock's and W H Smith's stand today. Livestock are being driven to market, having come to the town by train. On the west side, the foreground shops were new when the 'then' photo was taken, and remain today, disfigured by garish signage. The more distant ones would soon be pulled down as part of the High Street widening scheme.
